Azure Data Engineer — Remote (Portugal)

We are seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to join a global technology consultancy's international engineering team, contributing to a long-term banking project for a leading European financial institution. This permanent role, based remotely in Portugal, involves designing, building, and maintaining modern Azure-based data platforms and cloud solutions that underpin critical banking applications and data-driven initiatives. Responsibilities: - Develop and optimize data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Python. - Build and maintain scalable data solutions on Azure SQL, ensuring performance, reliability, and security. - Create backend services and automation scripts using Python. - Perform SQL development, query optimization, and performance tuning. - Design secure, scalable, and cost-efficient solutions on Microsoft Azure. - Implement Azure security best practices with Azure Active Directory, Managed Identities, and Azure Key Vault. - Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployments using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep. - Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable software delivery. - Work with containerized environments using Docker, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure Container Instances (ACI). - Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot production issues, and drive continuous improvement. - Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across engineering teams. Perfil pretendido: - 6 years of experience designing and implementing solutions on Microsoft Azure. - Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL. - Proven track record in building and maintaining data pipelines and cloud-based data solutions. - Advanced Python development skills. - Experience with SQL performance tuning and complex query development. - Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep. - Solid understanding of Azure security principles, including Azure AD, Managed Identities, and Azure Key Vault. - Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. - Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS). Nice to have: - Experience with Azure monitoring and observability tools. - Knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies. - Experience supporting large-scale production environments. - Background in banking, financial services, or regulated environments.
